Research

Ben has recently completed a PhD at Cardiff Metropolitan University's School of Art & Design; an investigation into the way in which film-making can help to develop the social communication skills of autistic children.

The project started as a reflection on Ben's own practice, delivering animation workshops to autistic children. It then moved on to observe the work of another practitioner, delivering similar activities in a school. The research establishes the activity of film-making as one that is rich in social opportunities for autistic children, providing a robust basis for further work exploring the ways in which it can be used to develop their social skills. If you would like to find out a little more about Ben's research, you can read the abstract from his PhD thesis here.
